Grahampton was the estate where Mr. René A. M. Classen and his family resided for 25 years in Greenwich, Connecticut.

The Classen family is well known in European banking circles.  The first record of the Classen family engaging in finance is from 1314, over 690 years ago.  

In American history, one oldest homesteads in the United States is the Pieter Claesen -Wyckoff House built in New Amsterdam (now New York) in 1652 by one of Mr. René A. M. Classen’s ancestors.

Our History

Grahampton & Company traces its origins to the Classen Corporation, a finance company founded in 1982 by Mr. Rene A. M. Classen, the former CEO of CIT Financial and the former President of the Canadian Acceptance Corporation.  Over the past 25 years, three evolutions have taken place. 

  • In 1991, Classen Management Services was established leading to a decade of emerging market operations and work spanning over 50 countries. 
  • In 2000, competencies expanded to the support of humanitarian endeavors and engagements that touched upon the entire developing world.
  • In 2008, the interests of Ballantrae Partners, LLC an advisory firm established by the Hon. David J. Wimer (former CEO of the Hay Group) and Elmira Togliatti was acquired. 

It was in 2008 that the new structure and new name, Grahampton & Company, was adopted. Operations are based in the Washington D.C. area, though work is carried out in virtually every corner of the globe.
